Apple Kills Unlimited MobileMe Free Trials Dead

Back there was a time when Apple allowed the graces of the now defunct web service, .Mac, onto your computer for a generous 60 days to take for a test run before you shell out 99 dollars for what would then be considered an overpriced piece of shit. Free was a price point we could all agree on and much to our delights the criteria that needed to be met for an equally priced account was nothing more than a name that could be re-used to our hearts’ content. Sure exploitations of a service meant to rid your wallet of a Benjamin occurred, so much so that Apple has finally smartened up and made it a lot harder to “try out” .Mac or should I say, MobileMe more than once.

Upon trying to register for a MobileMe trial account during the short two weeks Apple would have to go without my money escaping my grasp into theirs, I was stopped and promptly bitch slapped with a dose of economic crackdown. MobileMe now requires a credit card that will be charged once your trial expires. Yes, all of those looking to cheap out and run on an unlimited supply of trial accounts, Apple just vanquished your long unnoticed and Ninja like frugality but what about that damn credit check?

I wouldn’t happen to know about expired, overdrawn or invalid credit cards/ Apple would most likely lay down the ban hammer on your user account until you crack open the piggy bank under your bed that was meant for hookers, top ramen and whatnot. They’ve already shown an interest in killing off leachers, expired accounts will no longer be able to user their screen names for AIM, .Mac users are in the clear for now.
