iPhone 2.2 To Arrive In Days? Will Pack OTA Podcast Downloads

Rumors are starting to point towards Apple releasing Firmware 2.2, the latest revision of the iPhone Operating System in the next ten days, which would make it available for download November 21st. Features have been worked in and heavy development has taken place since the first screenshots and demos seeds for 2.2 have surfaced a while back. In addition to the plethora of new additions to an already much anticipated release, Apple has baked in over the air Podcast downloading.
Imminent Release
Gimzodo has published a report from from iPhone Hellas stating that Apple is set to release the latest Firmware of 2.2 to iPhones sometime in the next ten days. This rumor should be taken attentively considering this Gizmodo source has yet to provide a speculative piece that has come to fruition besides the usual source of screenshots from continuous seeds of Firmware 2.2.
Over The Air Podcast Downloads
Recently, Apple had denied a standalone Application that downloads Podcast episodes into the App Store citing a conflict between iTunes’ Podcast management and the App itself. While it survived briefly through Apple’s own Ad Hoc distribution method, it was cut short leaving users to turn towards Jailbreaking for such functionality or continue using iTunes for syncing Podcast episodes.
Apple has finally revealed the source of what functionality Podcaster really duplicated; over the air Podcast downloading directly from the iPhone. This feature has been integrated directly into the iTunes App and will allow downloading whether or not the iPhone is tied to a Wi-Fi network, or on a cellular network.
If episodes are being downloaded from the latter, Apple has instituted a 10 MB limit keeping in line with similar restrictions on Application downloads from the App Store. Wi-Fi downloading has no such limit tacked on and leaves the option open for video Podcast downloading. It would be unlikely for Apple to be so generous for song downloads, liberating them from only Wi-Fi purchases. Cellular carriers make a healthy cut selling subscribers media packages allowing them to download songs and videos at disproportionate prices and could create a potential conflict of interest.
