New Apple Earphones Incompatible With iPhone, Earlier Gen iPods

Everyone loves some new accessories to go with their little multi colored and plastic music playing device but a riff has been set between Apple’s new iPod earphones causing some of the advertised features to not work on iPods already in hands before today. Earbuds Apple? C’mon!

Some of us were a little jealous when the iPhone got some badass ear phones (when compared to bargain bin buds and other iPod earphones of course) for the sole factor that it had a mic and music control buttons in a very svelte and small bezel hooked on to the cord that remained mostly out of sight. Surprise, surprise Apple finally makes an iPod compatible version but at the cost of rubbing it in the face of those who have those slightly less newer ‘Pods. Sure they play music and all but you’re not just buying them to blast Pantera through your skull.

But now that we have quite a mucked up selection of earbuds ranging from the mic less buds that came standard on iPods to the now better sounding and more dominant in your Cochlea In Ear Buds, consumers might be a little peeved that some things don’t work when they should if they nab the wrong pair. Although Apple is used to make new accessories work to their full potential on newer devices, it’s a little embarrassing that these new buds remain wholeheartedly featureless on the iPhone despite its support for the Mic and volume control. Even the newer 3G version can’t take advantage of this and those wanting the in ear buds for better ranging sound will have to look for 3rd party solutions. Alternatively you can buy the specially made for iPhone earphones which happen to do the same thing and ironically aren’t cross compatible in the “do more than make sound” department.

The iPhone remote headphones have volume control? I knew about the pause button, but this is news to me.
