Review: Wordpress iPhone App

Blogging on the iPhone has been a mixed bag in usability. Compromises in a Blogger’s Workflow had to be made to accomodate the iPhone’s limitations such as no copy & paste, not being able to add photos and whatnot. But if you’re running a Wordpress Blog to let everyone know about your highly unimportant opinion (our is only slightly worthier in the regard that you’re reading our Blog and we’re ignoring yours) you can take that on the go with your iPhone.

Despite what you might think, those obsessed with maintaining their Blogs like a mother hounding their son to clean their room won’t find any solace in this App while in its current form. It’s more for those who post casually (whoever the hell that applies to) or for that one scenario where you really need to push something out a few minutes before your deadline but oh crap you already left the house and your computer is at home and if you fuck up again you’re out. Even though serious Blog-a-holics won’t turn to this App to satisfy their need of flouting high word count posts, it’s still simple and stream lined enough that you can get something done.

However the real limitations lie in the iPhone itself. If you get turned off by the iPhone’s keyboard then you’ll be tempted to maybe Blog a pretty picture with your camera and just write a few words describing how cute that girl in the background was even though you were aiming at your friend. But if you find you can’t pull yourself away from that buttery smooth keyboard then you’ll have a good chunk of your work waiting to be edited at home if you want to add in HTML or actually copy & paste something in.

But all the basics have been covered and will satisfy a big chunk of Bloggers who either have broke their thumbs into a perfect 90 degree downward angle from their iPhones or just type up a few paragraphs now and then. Besides the simple interface that focuses mainly on you writing and it just slapping your work on the front page of a Blog, this App is incredibly stable despite being in it’s early releases which is very refreshing considering most others crash like a small undersized clown attempting to drive a rather large vehicle with the end result being it rolling down a hill into a pit of rocks fashioned into sharp jagged edges.

But in the next version Ihope a few things are added like some expanded admin controls to filter comments and regulate plugins plus a stand alone word checker. I probably made a few simple errors but my iPhone has convinced me that its “superior” grasp of the English language is far beyond whatever I have mastered. Even then it still seemed obligated to strip out all profanity from whatever oozed out of my finger tips and toss in whatever random word combination my iPhone happened to think of.
