Verizon Doesn’t Care About The iPhone And Would Like To Tell You Why

Before the iPhone even sprang forth from the bowels of Apple’s Cupertino based campus, they shopped around for a suitable carrier to love, nurture and bring in monthly revenue for the iPhone. One of the first picks, Verizon, strongly turned it down passing off Apple’s partnership as a mere gimmick (nearing 10 million sales since launch seems to indicate otherwise or that almost 10 million people are easily subdued) and consequently all those new subscribers to AT&T. Whether they’re still hurting from a deep wound or just really faithful in their selection of touch screen phones, they’d really like to tell you why the iPhone hasn’t affected them at all, really, they want to.

Verizon’s tendency to down play the iPhone isn’t anything new, its been a core part of many marketing campaigns such as the Samsung Instinct to either differentiate itself from the saucy sleekness of Apple’s first smart phone or just stand out in the already over crowding touch screen market. Regardless, many other carriers have been pumping out touch screen phones to keep up with Apple’s ever growing hype machine, even AT&T has released the LG Vu and Palm Centro to stand along side the iPhone. Verizon on the other hand has not only followed suit with the LG Voyager and LG Dare but tries to add insult to injury by minimizing the iPhone’s success.

They’ve brushed off the iPhone as a short term impact on their subscriber base before but this time around they would like to make sure you know there is absolutely nothing to worry about. The iPhone isn’t going to instantly devour or cripple Verizon in any way or brain wash you to join the dark side, it won’t hold you at gun point and force you to pay an early termination fee just to see your family again and it surely won’t seduce you with its oh so damn sexy touch screen action. But to divert your attention, the iPhone has taken a positive impact on Verizon, yes that feeling that isn’t so bad and doesn’t reek of lost subscribers and shrinking profits. According to Electronista, Verizon is now selling a lot more smart phones that carry a higher priced data plan.

Verizon also asserts that the original iPhone onwards have had a stimulating effect on its own sales. Over 30 percent of phones sold are now smart phones, the firm says. These devices often have a higher up-front price and are similarly more lucrative in the long term, as customers are more likely to attach data plans and other services that translate to a higher average revenue per month for each user.

So just forget about silly AT&T, they’re just kibbles and bits to big red considering the BlackBerry Thunder is set to drop from the heavens onto CDMA loving subscribers eventually.
